EU Reform Treaty

The European summit held in Brussels on 21-23 June 2007 abandoned the idea of a European constitution and replaced it with a new Reform Treaty. The full details remain to be finalised in negotiations over the next few months, aiming to conclude by December 2007. The new treaty will then have to be ratified in each of the 27 member states according to its own constitutional requirements in order to come into force.The Federal Union has produced a helpful table outlining the differences between the 2004 proposed constitution and the new Reform Treaty which can be accessed on http://www.federalunion.org.uk/news/2007/070623reformtreatyanalysis.shtml The European Movement has issued a statement welcoming the agreement reached at the European Council meeting in Brussels (See link on menu).
