Helen Wallace Lecture

The Charlemagne Lecture 2008 is to be given by Professor Helen Wallace CMG FBA on Tuesday 20th May at 5.30pm and is entitled "A Bigger Europe - But is it Better?"

Helen Wallace is Centennial Professor, European Institute, at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Professor Wallace is also Honorary Professor at the University of Sussex. Previously she held posts at the European University Institute, the University of Sussex, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, the Civil Service College and UMIST, and she also directed the Economic and Social Research Council's 'One Europe or Several? Programme' (1998-2001).She is a leading expert on the politics of European integration, on which she has authored and co-authored numerous publications. She also contributes to public debates on European issues and periodically acts as an adviser on European policy to public bodies in the UK and to the European Union institutions.

The lecture will be chaired by Canon Guy Wilkinson (Interfaith Adviser to the Archbishop of Canterbury) as his inaugural role as Chairman of the Wyndham Place Charlemagne Trust. The Charlemagne Lecture was set up in 1995 to look at contemporary and historical European issues, not from a political or economic standpoint but from the moral and ethical view.

The lecture will be followed by a reception at around 7.pm. A report will be published after the event. Tickets for the lecture cost £15, which will cover admission to the lecture, the reception and a copy of the report.
