Phil Bennion
Liberal Democrat candidates for the European Parliament, including Phil Bennion, LDEG chair (West Midlands) and Catherine Bearder, LDEG vice chair (South East), attended a meeting with the European Liberal Forum in Brussels on the 4th April. They took part in a series of events aimed at candidates for the European Parliament, including discussions on policy and presentations from Vice-President of the European Commission, Siim Kallas, and Jules Maaten MEP. Kay Barnard (South West), Alan Butt-Philips (Wales) and Denise Hawksworth (East Midlands) also attended.
Catherine Bearder commented: "Liberal Democrats are showing our commitment to working with parties from right across Europe to achieve the best for Britain and for all Europeans. Unlike the Conservatives, the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats in Europe (ALDE) is working to build a stronger Europe to get us through these difficult economic times."
"By abandoning other parties in Europe, the Conservatives have isolated themselves on the lonely fringes of Europe's homophobic and xenophobic far right wing. David Cameron appears determined to destroy Britain's credibility, and our ability to fight for real and positive changes in Europe."
