14 April 2009: Today Baroness Nicholson of Winterbourne MEP, a member of the International Election Observation Mission in Moldova for the recent Parliamentary election, welcomed the decision of the President to have a recount of the votes. She stated: "I welcome the President's decision to have a recount of the votes of last week's election. I urge everyone involved in the recount to leave no stone uncovered to bring to light the wishes of the Moldovan people. I am concerned about the young people being held in custody in connection with the protests and urge the President to provide them with proper care and a fair hearing. The loss of life of one of the protesters is deeply regrettable. It is of vital importance that a fair and truthful recount of the votes now takes place."
