Jonathan at Leicester

Jonathan Fryer speaking at Leicester

Jonathan Fryer (London EU candidate), Carol Weaver, and Ed Maxfield (East Midlands EU candidate) all participated in an important conference on the Black Sea region held at the University of Leicester the day after the signing of the European Partnership in Prague this week. Jonathan talked about the "Black Sea Implications of Turkey's EU Accession" and Carol presented her paper on the theme of "Black Sea or Black Lake? A clash of security agendas." Other papers covered the clash of EU neighbourhood policies, energy security, democratisation, conflict resolution in the South Caucasus, and regional co-operation. There were many participants from Black Sea and South Caucasus countries including HE Ambassador Gurbanov from the Republic of Azerbaijan who opened with a talk on the Eastern Partnership. An important publication will follow later in the year edited by Karen Henderson, the conference organiser.

The conference was kindly sponsored by BASEES, UACES and the British Embassy, Bratislava.
