According to the FT, the UK is to cut funding for scholarships to the College of Europe, the training ground for Eurocrats, in a move that could leave fewer Britons in a position to influence policymaking in Brussels, critics have said. The decision, part of a review of education spending, means that all but two of the 28 scholarships annually awarded to UK graduates will be discontinued.
Nick Clegg says, "In the context of overall government spending of £600bn this is a minuscule saving. Yet it will create long-term costs by reducing the number of British graduates qualified to stand up for British interests in Europe."
